About

About CoverExplained

Plain-English business insurance guides for the people who run small businesses — organized by profession, not by policy jargon.

Why we exist

If you are a landscaper, consultant, photographer or handyman, most insurance information online is either written for large companies or written to sell you a policy. We wanted a resource that starts with your trade and answers the questions you actually have: what you need, what is optional, what drives the price, and what to ask before you sign.

What we do

  • Profession-specific guides. Each trade gets its own cluster of guides on coverage, costs and requirements.
  • Sources you can check. We link to state insurance departments, federal agencies and recognized industry bodies.
  • Regular updates. Every guide shows when it was last updated.

What we are not

CoverExplained is not an insurance company, agency or broker, and we do not sell policies. Our guides are general information, not personal advice. Always confirm coverage and pricing with a licensed agent in your state.

How we make money

The site is supported by advertising. Advertisers do not choose our topics, review our content or influence what we write. If that ever changes — for example, if we add affiliate partnerships — we will disclose it clearly on the page.

How we create content

We use AI tools to help research and draft guides, and every guide follows our editorial policy: claims must be sourced, numbers must come from a cited source, and links are checked before publishing.

Who writes it

The guides are published under Stephanie Mitchell. Stephanie Mitchell has 20 years of experience researching and explaining business insurance topics for small business owners.
