How we research
Editorial policy
Insurance decisions affect your livelihood. These are the standards every guide on this site must meet.
1. Start with the reader’s question
Every guide targets a specific question a business owner asks — such as “do landscapers need business insurance?” — and answers it directly in the first paragraph before going into detail.
2. Research from primary sources
We prioritize sources in this order:
- Federal and state government sites (state departments of insurance, SBA, OSHA, BLS)
- The National Association of Insurance Commissioners (NAIC) and recognized industry bodies
- Trade associations for the profession in question
We do not use insurance sellers’ marketing pages as sources for facts.
3. No invented numbers
Prices, statistics and legal requirements must come from a cited source. Where reliable figures do not exist, we explain what affects the cost instead of guessing a range.
4. Use of AI
We use AI tools to help research and draft guides. Drafts are checked against our standards: required structure, sourced claims, working links and accuracy. AI is a tool in our process, not a substitute for accuracy.
5. Links are verified
Every external link is checked automatically before publishing. Broken links are removed.
6. Updates and corrections
Each guide shows a “last updated” date. If you find an error, please contact us. We correct verified errors promptly and update the date.
7. Independence
CoverExplained is supported by advertising. Advertisers never review, approve or influence our content, and no insurer pays to be mentioned.
